RULES, WHAT RULES?

 

Despite disagreement over specifics, there are some generally-agreed upon good practices to observe when designing for the web.  Just as you should master the proper rules of English grammar, style and usage before you can wield, manipulate and break those rules; you should understand the basic principles of web page design before you proceed to break those guidelines.
Here are some points to consider.
