HIS 101 and 111: The Ancient Paragraph

Naqsh-e Rustam
This is a photo of Naqsh-e Rustam, northwest of what was once the Ancient Persian capital city of Persepolis. The site contains the tombs of four Achaemenid tombs, including that of Darius 1 (r. 522-486 BCE), that have been carved into the solid rock face (and pretty high up at that). There are also carved reliefs that depict rulers from the Sassand dynasty (third century BCE).  Photo credit Sanaz Dabiri.
