Most of the assignments in the course are based on the analysis of primary historical
documents, and so on this page I give you an example of some of the key questions
that you should consider whenever you read a historical document.  I also provide a
sample analysis of an excerpt from Hammurabi's code of laws.  Please note that there
are no absolutely correct answers for any of these questions, but the questions
themselves are meant to serve as a guide for you as you read a document.  Please
also note that as you read, you should be paying attention to the meaning of the words. 
This is something that you'll be focusing on in this course, the textual analysis of
documents.  That means a close reading of the words in those documents to
understand what they mean and then an analyis to read each a historical conclusion.
