HIS 102
Decembrists Paragraph Assignment

This is a view from atop St. Isaac's Cathedral (Исаакиевский Собoр, built 1818-1858) looking out over Decembrists' Square (Площадь Декабристов) in St. Petersburg.  Across the Neva River you can see the Winter Palace.  This was the site of the ill-fated Decembrists Uprising (14/26 December 1825).  The Square was long known as Senate Square because of the location of the Russian Senate building there, but in 1925, Soviet authorities renamed  the square "Decembrist Square" in honor of Russia's failed first revolutionaries.  The Bronze Horseman is also there.  Photo Credit DaLish.
