Russell Peter Bear (1921-2017) was born in Seipstown (near Fogelsville) and graduated from Slatington High School in 1938 and Penn State in 1942. During World War 2, he served in the US Navy.

According to his obituary, he taught English at Allentown Central Junior High and then South Mountain Junior high from 1946 to 1959. He was then assistant principal at Dieruff High School in Allentown until he retired in 1978.

He married Rachael Knauss (1920-2012) in 1942, and they had three daughters.

He was extremely active when he attended Slatington High School participating in basketball, track, band where he played first cornet, orchestra and other activities. In the senior class, he was voted best musician, best mannered, most generally talented.
