Lehigh & New England to Abandon Branch Line
On Saturday the Interstate Commerce Commission authorized the Lehigh and New England railway company to abandon a branch line in this section. The line affected is in Lehigh and Northampton Counties.
The company said the branch line is six miles long, connecting Slatington and Slate Junction, has carried little traffic in recent years and that continued operation is not justified.

[Note: There were several predecessor railroads to the Lehigh & New England all with the goal of running a line from Slatington (or Harrisburg) to Boston. These attempts included the Pennsylvania, Poughkeepsie and New England Railroad aka Pennsylvania, Poughkeepsie and Boston Railroad aka Pennsylvania, Slatington and New England Railroad. In December 1889, the bridge over the Lehigh River at Slatington was completed. The bridge was torn down in 1935, but the masonry piers were left standing.]
