Adjourned Meeting [Borough council meeting on 24 March 1938]
"The Chairman of the Highway Committee stated that a number of citizens complained about the drinking fountain in front of the post office and want same removed."
"Motion by [John] Hartman, seconded by [Adam] Sauerwine, the Highway committee meet Hose Company No. 1 about the removal of same. Motion carried."
[Note: It is unclear if the complaints were referring to the “human” drinking fountain on the fireman statue or the “horse” and “dog” drinking troughs. The statue was ordered in 1909 and dedicated on 23 April 1910. It was not dedicated to any specific person or event. The statue was damaged on 28 October 1979 and then restored and rededicated 19 July 1980.
